What Will Economic Recovery Look Like?

I read in this morning’s paper that economic recovery is going to be slow, but it didn’t give many specifics. I guess I am increasingly curious what the experts mean by economic recovery. Is it recovery to where we were in the 1970’s, the 80’s or two years ago? Define recovery!
I think the experts and the government are looking at short-term indicators and missing the big picture. A friend recently sent me a link to a youtube video that was both amazing and frightening. For those of you interested the link is youtube video.
I have no way to predict the future and have no way to validate some of the information contained in this video, but I believe the trends that it talks about are real and happening now. A few of the more interesting points highlighted are:
The 25% of India’s population with the highest IQ’s is greater than the total population of the United States. The top 10 in demand jobs in 2010 didn’t exist in 2004. The U.S. Department of Labor estimates today’s learner will have 10 to 14 jobs by age 38.
That information coupled with the fact that fewer U.S. students are graduating with math and science degrees makes me wonder if real economic recovery is possible. Overall the United States spent an average of ,701 per student on elementary and secondary education in 2005, up 5 percent from ,287 the previous year. We’re spending money but simply not keeping up.
Until we resolve some of the big picture issues real economic stability cannot happen. The government cannot create wealth and real jobs; the private sector has to do that. In order to do that business needs the brainpower to compete globally.
I am constantly talking to businesses about the need to anticipate and get ahead of change. Most are reluctant to do so. I read somewhere the “change occurs only when the pain to change is less than the pain of remaining where you are”.
I think, as a nation we are approaching that point and business needs to lead the reformation.

President Barack Obama talks directly to the American people about the immediate need for action on the economy. Join your friends and neighbors at an Economic Recovery House Meeting in your community: my.barackobama.com

I agree with this one and it gives me the energy to continue struggling .atleast I know that i have a president who cares about me and who remembers me even after getting inside the white house .Thank you very much president Obama .just keep in mind that the same life that you went thru in the 80s is what most of us are going thru rigth now !!!

Sure hope your infrastructure improvements include fiber optics into everyone’s household at an affordable rate WITHOUT the ISP as gatekeepers throttling usage. High volume digital video and peer-to-peer cannot be squelched by territorial ISPs who don’t want the competition yet want to charge, if YOU let them, by the byte count. This is now a Public Utility.

I wish Washington/Republicans would get the message. The partisan politics in washington is sickening. Republicans wanting not wanting to support the president so that he is not re-elected is stupid. That is like 4 years away. What are Americans going to be eating in the meantime?? This country is doomed because of divisive politics and back-biting. Maybe we deserve the looming collapse as we elect these so called leaders.. God help America.

I think it is hard for the average American to fully comprehend the scope of this crisis, and the vast amount of efforts that are taking place in Washington to try and address it. No one is willing to admit that we don’t know what’s going on, & there can be no panacea if we can’t fully diagnose our illness. Only when we look back on these next few years, can we start to understand what’s really going on today. Still, I appreciate the open lines of discussion that are taking place across America.

That was the best thing a President has said in years.
Good luck with your plan President Obama.

Pass this package! Obama has it right… this is what we need. Rebuild this nation instead of destroying others and funding corporations. Why cant those republicans see that this is what we want and need.

Mr. President, you are a wonderful man who always rises to the occasion and I firmly believe that America could not be in better hands. God bless you and your family.

I completely support President Obama and all of his ideas.
But think, we are the only country in the WORLD that you are required to pay for healthcare. If there was universal healthcare that was provided to us, we could use the money that we pay into healthcare for things we need, in turn giving the economy a boost.
The older generation wont have to choose to pay the electric bill or their insurance bill because they have to make a choice based on what their SSI allows.
Lets make a difference

We’ve inherited a terrible mess is right…the damaged economy reflects the degree of neglect from the incompetent Bush & his Republican band of cronies. Eight years of pillaging & plundering has finally taken it’s toll. Whoever voted for Bush must’ve been smoking from Michael Phelps’ bong.

Wow. This guy is doing things the right way. Even if you aren’t a democrat, you have to love the promise that this guy shows. He definitely has the potential to do some great things. I wasn’t completely on board when he was elected (even though I am moderately liberal), but this guy is winning me over day in and day out. I hope he pulls everything off that hes trying to do.
