Nearly half of gamers are female


Some 23 million people in Germany regularly play computer and video games. Almost half of them – in fact 44 percent – are women, as one on Wednesday published study of the Society for Consumer Research (GfK) shows. The number of female players has risen sharply in recent years, said a spokesman for the Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU), which had commissioned the study with 25,000 respondents in order. “The current profile study refutes the traditional stereotype, gamers are male, unmarried and young,” says BIU spokesman.

According to the study, women most often play games that are accessed directly in the browser or on social networking sites like Facebook, as well as movement, music and dance games.
Also gaming is not a single phenomenon, the study shows that the highest percentage of gamers living in multi-person households and families.
