iPad Threatens Ban in China

In general, it is Apple trying to push with the other trademark lawsuits out of the market. Now the billion dollar company is on the other side: In a dispute with the Chinese monitor manufacturer Proview Technology in Hong Kong has a court in the industrial city of Shenzhen decided against Apple. U.S. companies were denied the right to use the brand in China iPad. Proview had already secured the appropriate naming rights in 2000.

Core of the dispute was a contract, the Apple 2006 with the Taiwanese subsidiary of Proview Electronics Co. Ltd.. had closed. In the agreement the company had transferred its worldwide rights to the term iPad upon payment of $ 54,000 to Apple.

Now representing the Chinese parent company Proview International Holdings Ltd.. the view that the agreement covers the rights to the use of the iPad trademark in China because the Taiwanese subsidiary does not have these rights.
