Minor update or major upgrade? The new Apple iPhone 4S splits trailer. Matthias Kremp has tried the linguistically gifted smartphone, and explains why this model is also a mega-seller – even though many iPhone fans to save the purchase of the novice should.

That should be the new iPhone? Yes, that’s it, even if it looks exactly like its predecessor. The same way? Almost. After all, who the previous iPhone 4 has often been viewed enough, a small difference is remarkable: the metal framework, its components also serve as antennas, now has four parts rather than three. But that’s all that is visible from the outside.

It already is, at least according to Apple, a significant innovation. Previously served only one of the outer receiving antennas – and there was trouble. Because many people on the phone accidentally covering the antenna with your hand, could worsen the reception. Many first-time buyers of the iPhone 4 were annoyed. Later than the designated crisis Antennagate Apple responded by sending a free cell phone carrying solutions to those affected. The fourth antenna in the new model is to solve the old problem now. Depending on which has better reception, two antennas alternately worry about the connection to the network. In the test, at least no more connection problems were detected.

Siri takes the A5 chip – Apple says

When the new iPhone 4S are otherwise mostly under the hood. An iPhone for the modified version of the A5 processor from the iPad 2 is to make the phone faster, better, the graphics output. Neither can it provide information about where the nearest pizza sits, nor can it calculate the route to the airport. It sets up the German Siri one appointments, play music, looking for addresses and initiate calls. Apple wants to run after everything else, but called for an appointment.

Practically, the speech recognition capabilities of the iPhone 4S, especially in situations where they should be free both hands or wants: time dictate just one text message or an e-mail to the phone works well, provided that the commitment to ensure a reasonably clear pronunciation.

Beautiful, quiet stream of images

As sensational as Apple is the Siri capabilities of the iPhone 4S, but they are not. Google calls the language capabilities of its Android system Voice Actions, so that offers similar capabilities as Apple‘s Siri. Just like the Siri Voice Actions only work with existing online connection. The voice recording will be sent via a data link to the server on which is the actual speech recognition. But Google wants even more: The technology is already trying to translate the spoken sentences, to long-term mobile phone as fast simultaneous interpreters be used. Nor is the future of music.

The other major technical update of the 4S is its camera. They also benefited from the faster processor. On the one hand, because the camera app launches faster, and now offers basic image editing functions. These functions are possible, according to Apple, because in the A5-chip of the iPhone 4S, unlike the iPad 2, was incorporated as an ISP (Image Signal Processor).

This also applies to the video function. Movies are recorded in full HD 1080p resolution, which gives more details. Above all, the new iPhone video recording will automatically calm.
