YouTube is an Agreement with Pepertoire Owners in the U.S.
Google, owner of YouTube, concluded on Wednesday 17 August, an agreement with the repertoire owners of the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA). “This agreement enables rights holders to have more choices in managing their songs ” , said an official of YouTube, the band’s official blog. The beneficiaries will receive a percentage of revenue generated by advertisements before the launch of a video. With the marking system Google “Content ID” , that income will be collected for both official videos of the artists, but also to those published by users who reuse the music on the YouTube platform.
ARM IRON WITH DEPENDANTS
In 2007, the NMPA had filed suit against YouTube in conjunction with the media group Viacom , accusing it of putting online videos illegally protected by copyright. But in June 2010, Google won a first lawsuit against Viacom. The judge took into account the particular cooperation of Google with the claimant. In February 2007, Viacom had indeed sent YouTube a list of one hundred thousand videos infringing copyright. They were immediately removed. The agreement with the NMPA does not suspend the appeal launched by Viacom.
